As the girls soccer team gets ready for another season of adventures, the team headed out to Howell Nature Center where a little team bonding was in order. Twitter pages exploded on the pleasant 30 minute drive but once we hit our destination the girls were back to reality and stuck in the middle of the woods with no way out. Our team leader, Heather, had no idea the task that was just placed before her but she was ready to help the team improve communication, focus, and team work. The group started with their 5 finger committment which determined the foundation on which the team will build upon through out the season. The day continued with a game of being able to learn names and connect with a little ball passing game. (It's a good thing the team uses their feet to catch the balls and not their hands!) The team moved outside for another team building exercise. The team had to solve a maze, one person at a time. Communication, team work and focus were the key skills that they needed to use. Through this exercise, the team learned that risks must be taken during a game even if you are unsure of the outcome. After the maze, the team moved to the low ropes course where they focused on team trust and team support. The low ropes course challenged each player to take a role within the team. Leaders started emerging as the course became more difficult. The girls started to work together for the common goal of finishing as a whole. After the team's hard work, everyone headed inside. They were then asked to comment on one thing they are proud about themselves and one teammate for accomplishing that day. This team bonding session has proved to be a great stepping stone for the season to come. The season has a bright future as the team has grown closer and are able to work together. Special thanks goes out to Howell Nature Center and our team leader Heather for their amazing facility and help with growing our team. A big thanks to Capitol Cab for the transportation. Thanks to Waverly FC Boosters for making this outing possible. For more photos please look Here.
